چکیده

We explore the addition of Allee effects to single-species discrete-time models with overcompensatory density dependence. When the intrinsic growth rate of the population, r , is large, the population bifurcates into chaos. The population goes extinct if r is either below a threshold level or very large. The model is then used to study host–parasitoid interactions with and without Allee effects in the host. The coexistence of the host and parasitoid populations both depends on threshold levels of r , threshold levels of the host population size, and the parasitoid potential, which is the product of the searching efficiency of the parasitoid for the host, and the fecundity of the parasitoid. The addition of Allee effects has a negative impact on the coexistence of both populations. c © 2007 Published by Elsevier Ltd

We study a stage-structured single species population model with Allee effects. The asymptotic dynamics of the model depend on the maximal growth rate of the population as well as on its initial population size. We also investigate two models of host-parasitoid interaction with stage-structure and Allee effects in the host. The parasitoid population may drive the host population to extinction i...

Host-Parasitoid Dynamics and the Success of Biological Control When Parasitoids Are Prone to Allee Effects

In sexual organisms, low population density can result in mating failures and subsequently yields a low population growth rate and high chance of extinction. For species that are in tight interaction, as in host-parasitoid systems, population dynamics are primarily constrained by demographic interdependences, so that mating failures may have much more intricate consequences. Our main objective ...

Host-Parasitoid Systems with Predation-Driven Allee effects in Host

4 Allee effects and parasitism are common biological phenomena observed in nature, which are believed to have significant impacts in ecological conservation programs. In this article, we investigate the population dynamics of host-parasitoid systems with Allee effects induced by predation satiation in host to study the effects of Allee effects and parasitism as well as the timing of parasite’s ...

Allee effects in a Ricker-type predator-prey system

We study a discrete host-parasitoid system where the host population follows the classical Ricker functional form and is also subject to Allee effects. We determine basins of attraction of the local attractors of the single population model when the host intrinsic growth rate is not large. In this situation, existence and local stability of the interior steady states for the host-parasitoid int...

Invading parasitoids suffer no Allee effect: a manipulative field experiment.

One frequent explanation for the failure of biological invasions is the Allee effect: due to positive density dependence, initially small invading populations may fail to establish and spread. Populations released for biological control are similar to fortuitous invading populations and may therefore suffer from Allee effects. However, unlike fortuitous invasions, biological control allows the ...
